Regional Development Australia (RDA) is made up of a nation-wide network of 55 Committees, representing all the regions of Australia, with the broad objective of enhancing the growth and sustainable development of regional Australia.
RDA Committees are made up of Members - community leaders who have been drawn from their local region to work towards strengthening their regional communities. Committees are supported by a partnership between the commonwealth, state, territory and local levels of government, working together with community and business stakeholders.
The RDA network has four key functions:
provide advice to commonwealth, state, territory and local governments, following community and stakeholder consultation, on local regional development issues and priorities;
promote regional approaches to planning and infrastructure - develop a strategic Regional Plan;
promote whole-of-government approaches - policies, programs and initiatives, and raise awareness of programs and services available to regional communities; and promote local regions to enhance regional prosperity - help to develop economic sustainability for regional communities by encouraging investment and securing long term jobs.
